BICS will present at Genesis 2024 in Seville – a ROCCO Group annual event – having reached the finals in both the roaming and messaging categories of the pre-event Hackathon. BICS is the only company to feature in both finals.
The Genesis Hackathon brings together operators, enterprises, and vendors, and challenges them to unite to solve some of the industry’s top challenges. These are real industry issues for which several companies are looking for a solution. Participants will have to develop a product, service, or solution that solves the challenges in ‘an original way’.
Teams were briefed on the task in March and given three weeks to come up with their solutions. They then presented this to a panel of judges, and three finalists were picked for each category, to present at Genesis 2024 where the final winners will be decided.
- ‘The roaming challenge’, presented and judged by the Head of Messaging at BT, is ‘how to cater for the growing demands of roaming QoS (quality of service) with limited resources’.
- ‘The messaging challenge’, presented and judged by the roaming director of Orange France, is ‘how to deal with large amounts of messaging fraud reported data’.
International roaming and combatting telecoms fraud are BICS’ bread and butter. We were the first company to achieve a successful 5G SA roaming connection and on the fraud front, BICS blocked 507 million fraudulent spam calls and robocalls and blocked 473 million smishing attempts across its network in 2023.
So, with that in mind, we’re thrilled (but not surprised) to see both our teams through to the final! We wish both teams good luck at Seville and we look forward to sharing more details about the solutions in the future!
