BICS recognises the uptick in demand and the potential for future growth of connectivity and telecoms infrastructure in Africa. In 2014, BICS deployed a PoP in Johannesburg, which complemented the company’s existing PoPs in Djibouti and Mauritius. The subsequent expansion into Kenya both underscores the company’s dedication to service provision in the region and also completes BICS’ comprehensive and mature infrastructure backbone on the continent.

BICS launches unique Voice Roaming Firewall solution

The telecoms sector is behind the curve when it comes to managing and combatting fraud in roaming, such as IRSF (International Revenue Share Fraud). This is due in part to the inherent nature of roaming, which introduces delays in fraud detection ranging anywhere between a few hours and a few days. As a result, roaming has emerged as the biggest exploit within the industry, contributing significantly to the total 38.1 billion USD worth of fraud losses estimated by the Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA).

LTE roaming is now available in 126 countries worldwide

BICS, a global leader in wholesale carrier services, today announced a 70% increase in the number of countries adopting LTE roaming in the last year, with availability now in 126 countries worldwide. Through the BICS IPX (IP exchange) platform, its operator customers can now offer their subscribers high quality data roaming with over 325 operators around the world.

During 2015, LTE roaming has been launched in countries such as the USA, Italy, Morocco, Iceland and the Seychelles. Carriers launching these next generation services enable their customers, and inbound visitors roaming onto their networks, access to the highest quality data services through either direct connections or peering agreements.
